The southern transept
The organ was built by George Fincham & Sons in 1962 and is a 2 manual extension instrument, using three ranks (Diapason, Flute and String) plus a 3 rank Mixture which is playable on both the Swell and Great. It uses electro-pneumatic action. Most of the pipework is enclosed except the Open Diapason rank and the lowest notes of the Bourdon 16' which are in the case. The pipework is situated in a gallery at the far end of the spacious northern transept while the console is located in an alcove along the western wall within the northern transept. The organ speaks into one of Sydney's most generous acoustics and sounds much better than it should!
