THE ORGAN OF THE GROTE KERK, MAASSLUIS

In The King of Instruments at 5 pm on Saturday 9 April 2022, we travel to The Netherlands to hear one of its finest organs: the 1732 Garrels organ of the Grote Kerk at Maassluis.

Feike Asma was the church’s organist from 1965 until his death in 1984. During that period—in 1975—restoration work on the instrument was completed.

Jaap Kroonenburg has held the position of organist since 1984, and has made many recordings on the instrument, of which we’ll hear a selection. The titles to be played are:

  1. John Stanley, arr. Coleman – Trumpet Voluntary
  2. Giovanni Battista Martini – Trio in D
  3. William Boyce, arr. Wall – Gavotte
  4. Samuel Wesley – Gavotte
  5. Felix Mendelssohn – Prelude and Fugue in G major
  6. Arcangelo Corelli, trans. Guilmant – Prelude from Violin Sonata No. 9
  7. Samuel de lange Jr – Carillon
  8. Leon Boellmann – Menuet Gothique from Suite Gothique
  9. Nicolas Choveaux – Marche
  10. Simon Landsman – Berusting
  11. Malcolm Archer – Elegy
  12. George Thalben-Ball – Tune in E
