St Andrew's Cathedral Sydney, the Cathedral's Friends of Music, and Culture and Art Heritage Association of Ukraine cordially invite you to a concert Sounds of Hope. This charity concert, held on Saturday 8 February, 5.30 pm, at St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney, is one in the series of concerts in the International Festival of Ukrainian Organ Music dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Ukrainian organ school and the 115th anniversary of its founder, Professor Arseniy Kotlyarevskyi. Donations raised at the concert will contribute to the St Andrew's Cathedral Organ Appeal, to help restore the organ to its full glory.
Six Sydney organists - Alexandra Sidorenko, Fiona Loader, Ross Cobb, Philip Reichardt, Lana Bailey and Titus Grenyer - will play Ukrainian organ music by Mykola Kolessa, Mykhail Shukh, Viktor Goncharenko, Svyatoslav Lunyov, Vyacheslav Nazarov, Lesya Dychko, Svitlana Ostrova and Sergii Leontiev, many of the pieces are Australian first. There will be sparkling duets, organ improvisations and contrasting piano, celeste and saxophone pieces. You will hear Larysa Kovalchuk, the star of The Voice Australia, singing a heart-warming Ukrainian folk song accompanied by a traditional bandura. You will be carried away by the soulful sounds of Paul Burjan's saxophone. The rich and varied concert programme showcases Ukrainian musical tradition and contemporary classical music alike.
Ukrainian art and food will enhance the experience of this very special night.
