Organ when located in the crypt of St Mary's Cathedral
Photo: Simon Nieminski (October 2025)
This organ was purchased by Simon Nieminski and was used as a practice instrument since leaving its original home in 2004. Upon moving to St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, the instrument was placed in the cathedral's crypt until sold in November 2025. With the promptness of its action and gentle voicing (stopped wooden and spotted metal pipework) it makes an ideal practice organ or would suit a small chapel, etc.
The organ was built by the Wicks Organ Co., Highland, Illinois, USA, in 1939 and is the Sonatina model instrument opus 2007. It was built for Temple Emeth in Ardmore, Oklahoma, USA (reformed Jewish Synagogue) and voiced by Henry Vincent Willis (grandson of Father Henry Willis) when he was tonal director of the Wicks Organ Co.
It is a self contained unit; swell shades located behind a grille over the manuals; dimensions: 6'6" high x 5'8" width x 5'5" depth, including console but excluding blower, rectifier, wind regulator, and tremolo unit; Discus blower from the organ formerly in Langton Kirk, Gavinton, Scottish Borders.
3 ranks: dulciana, string, stopped flute, plus free reeds for lower octave of Pedal 16'.
