J.W. Walker & Son, 1874, rest. Mark Fisher 1989-90 (2/18 mechanical)
From SOJ August/September 1989, February/March 1990, June/July 1994, Autumn 2001, Winter 2001:
J.W. Walker & Son, London, built this organ in 1874 at a cost of £800. Several minor alterations were made in 1895 by G.K. Sandford of Newtown, including the raising of the Swell soundboard and the addition of the bottom octave of the Swell Bourdon 16', originally a Tenor C stop. Also, some changes were made to the upperwork: the Great Fifteenth, Swell Fifteenth and Mixture II were rescaled and filled in with odd pipes.
Mark Fisher carried out restoration of the insturment in 1989-90. Water-damaged wind-chests were overhauled, the action refurbished, and the smaller bellows returned to double-rise. All pipe work was cleaned and repaired, with the original cone tuning, pitch and temperament (equal) retained, as well as the 1895 alterations. A new "Venus" blower was installed.
