The Scandinavian Choir of Melbourne has about 30 members, non-Scandinavians joining with Swedes, Norwegians and Danes in the singing of Scandinavian music, usually unaccompanied, in the original language (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish. Occasionally Finnish, Icelandic...). It is a 4-part mixed choir, but we venture into six part harmonies now and then. On the first Sunday of every month we sing at the church service at the Swedish Church in Toorak. We also perform at various cultural events in the Scandinavian communities, and we have given concerts in Canberra 1996, Sydney 1997, Adelaide 1999, Hobart 2001 and Brisbane 2003.
The choir started as a small church choir in 1981. Staffan Thuringer has been the conductor since the choir became 'The Scandinavian Choir in 1989.
The choir will also sing in two Church Services in The German Lutheran Church, 90 Goulburn street, Sydney, on Sunday 24 April at 11 am (German Service) and 5.30 pm (Swedish service).
