Charisma was founded by clarinettist Roslyn Dunlop and cellist Julia Ryder in 1995 to explore and develop music for clarinet and cello. The group has premiered many works and enjoys an international reputation for lively and virtuosic music-making, receiving critical acclaim for tours in Australasia and Europe. Programmes include works spanning four centuries and four continents. Many composers from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Britain and Germany have written works for Charisma. They Frequently conduct composer workshops, and are particularly keen to encourage emerging composers. Charisma moves easily across all kinds of musical boundaries – from classical to blues, avant-garde to tangos, and minimalist to multi-media works. The marriage of styles has led to performances in unconventional venues such as jazz clubs, art galleries, bars and open spaces as well as traditional concert halls. Collaborations with musicians and organizations have led to concerts of eclectic repertoire, such as the art exhibition "State of Art Peace", giving multimedia performances about human rights commencing in Manly Gallery and then regional NSW in 2004. They frequently collaborate with other musicians to expand on the trio repertoire. With guest Violinist Chris Kimber they gave many performances of the Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time, in 2004 & 2005. Recently with guest violist Valmai Coggins they gave a stunning performance of Moya Henderson's "G'day Africa" pieces. They have recordings on CD and record for the ABC.

Ros Dunlop is one of Australia's leading clarinetists/bass clarinetists. She has been a strong advocate of new music for the clarinet & bass clarinet all her professional life. She has commissioned many Australian Composers and premiered many new compositions by composers worldwide. Ros has performed throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, East Timor and the USA, Her CDs have received International acclaim. Ros is a founding member of Charisma, with whom she has commissioned and premiered many new works including many multimedia premieres. In 2003 she embarked on an extensive project in East Timor, recording the traditional music of East Timor thus preserving it for future generations. She has been involved in music projects & concerts there ever since. Ros teaches clarinet and chamber music at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Julia Ryder has earned a reputation as one of Australia's most accomplished performers. She has won various prizes for her interpretation of Beethoven and chamber music as well as for her performances at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik. She has worked with composers such as Messiaen, Xenakis, Ferneyhough and Finnissy and has toured and recorded extensively as a soloist and with Australian and European ensembles and also appearing regularly at major festivals in Australia, Asia and Europe. Julia records for ABC Classics, Etcetera records (Holland) and Virgin Classics. She is a founding member of Charisma and Michelangeli Ensemble. She teaches chamber music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

David Miller is one of Australia's leading chamber musicians and vocal accompanists. The Sydney Morning Herald described him as "the role model of Australian accompanists. He has been awarded an AM for his services to Music. His distinguished career has included partnerships with many internationally renowned artists, Joan Carden, Marilyn Richardson John Pringle, to name but a few. He has performed with The Huntington Trio, Flederrman, The Song Company, The Australia Ensemble. He is a founding member of the Grevillea Ensemble. He has performed in the U.K, New Zealand, Indonesia, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, New Caledonia, Korea, Vanuatu and Vietnam. He has recorded for Walsingham Classics, Tall Poppies, Vox Australis, 2MBS-FM and ABC Classics. David Miller is on the staff of Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is Chair Ensemble Studies.

Linda was born in Sydney and began violin studies at the age of 6. She gained AMEB A.Mus.A Diploma in Violin with Distinction at the age of 14 and L.Mus.A the following year. Linda made her solo recital debut at the age of 19. She is a prizewinner of several competitions in Sydney and regional NSW and was twice a semifinalist in the NSW Concerto Competition.

In July 2008 Linda travelled to Russia to participate in the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory's International Summer School, where she studied with Professor Alexander Kirov. Subsequently she was selected to perform at the Rachmaninov Hall of Moscow Conservatory in the Summer School's final concert featuring outstanding young students.

Linda has performed many recitals in Australia, Russia and Ukraine and has been featured on Hope Channel Ukraine. She has also performed with other young musicians in concerts held in Seventh-day Adventist churches in St. Petersburg, Russia, and in Kiev, Kharkov and Zaporozhye in Ukraine.

Whilst furthering her violin studies in Russia, Linda has studied as an internship student in courses of Russian language at Lomonosov Moscow State University, gaining Certificate I in Russian as a Foreign Language in February 2010.

In 2011 Linda won the Prime Dental Open Instrumental Recital and the Jan Sedivka Memorial Award for the most outstanding string player in the City of Hobart Eisteddfod in Tasmania performing at the Hobart Town Hall.

Whilst completing the NSW Higher School Certificate in October –November 2011 in Australia as a distance education student, Linda will perform recitals for various churches in Sydney and Hobart later in 2011 to raise funds for her tertiary violin studies in Russia next year.

Under the guidance of Moscow Conservatory professor Alexander Kirov, Linda is currently preparing to undertake tertiary violin study from September next year in Russia, where she plans to study the Undergraduate Diploma, specializing in Violin.

Raisa Dobrinsky was an outstanding graduate of the Mussorgsky College of Music as well as the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, from which she graduated with honours in solo recital, chamber music, accompaniment and teaching.Immigrating to Australia in 1977, Raisa has been teaching part-time at the Conservatoriums of Sydney and Wollongong, allowing time to pursue her career as a concert performer. She has performed regularly with leading Australian music groups and given many solo recitals and radio broadcasts.

Gregory Elmaloglou is a graduate of Lyons Conservatorium, France, where he was born. As a member of the Austral String Quartet since 1959, he undertook two international tours, playing in 15 countries.  Later he founded the Trio Australis, and in partnership with Raisa Dobrinksy, has given many concerts and broadcasts. Gergory has made solo appearances at the ABC Prom concerts and Gold Concerts, and has been soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for whom he was the Associate Principal Cellist from 1972 – 1992.  He has made numerous television broadcast appearances for the ABC.

STEPHEN LALOR studied instrumental technique (domra/Russian mandolin) with Mykola Lysenko, and composition with Gennady Lyashenko at the Tchaikovsky Conservatorium Kiev.

He is in great demand as Guest Principal Mandolin with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia and a number of overseas orchestras. In 2011 alone he performs with The Malaysian Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony (incl. the completion of the Mahler recording cycle under Ashkenazy), Singapore Symphony (Singapore & Beijing), Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra (Don Giovanni & Romeo & Juliet) and Hong Kong Philharmonic.

As a solo performer on mandolin & domra (Russian mandolin) he performs at festivals in Australia & Europe (2010 EoroFest, 2005 Montreux Jazz Festival, 2004 Sydney Festival, 2011 Bulgakov Festival (Moscow), 2011 Sydney Festival) and on recordings from film soundtracks to orchestral (Mahler, Gelmetti, Prokofiev with SSO/Ashkenazy) and world/popular CD releases (The Volatinsky Trio, 101 Candles Orkestra). Prizes and a Churchill Fellowship (2003).

As a composer he has had his music performed and recorded by a range of performers and ensembles – instrumental, chamber, orchestral, opera, vocal and music theatre – his work sits outside the mainstream of Australian contemporary composition.

Recent performances (2011) have included his Bukovina Odyssey, performed by the Chanterelle String Quartet in the Sydney Symphony's St James Chamber Music Series, concert performances and recording of East-West by the Providence Mandolin Orchestra (New York), and The Master & Margarita Suite at the Bulgakov Musum, Moscow. His Quincerto is being performed by the Sydney Symphony Fellows at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, in October 2011.

Mark Quarmby graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music majoring in organ under Norman Johnston.  He has given many recitals throughout Australia, Europe, North America, Asia and New Zealand. For over 20 years he was associated with the music of St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney, playing for all their choral services, national live broadcasts and State occasions such as visits from Queen Elizabeth II, funerals of State governors and national memorial services. He has accompanied the Cathedral choir on several CDs and played for services with them in many of Britain’s most famous cathedrals including St Paul’s, London, Canterbury, Salisbury, Oxford, Winchester, Lichfield, Westminster Abbey and St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. His recital tours to Europe have taken him to Germany, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy where he has often included Australian organ music on his programs and lectured on the history of the organ in Australia. In 2009 he gave the opening recital of the American Guild of Organists Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, playing a whole program devoted to organ music written by Australian composers.  He was a tutor and recitalist for the Pipe Organ Encounter program held in Singapore in 2005. He served as the President of the Organ Music Society of Sydney for six years, is currently a National Director of the Organ Historical Trust of Australia (as well as being the web master for these two organisations) and has been a member of the Royal School of Church Music State committee. Mark Quarmby teaches piano, organ and musicianship in St Andrew’s Cathedral School, St Patrick’s College, Strathfield, the University of NSW and privately.  He is a music examiner and adjudicator and has been repetiteur for several university choirs. From August 2009 he was appointed as the Director of Music at St Stephen's, Macquarie Street.  During his spare time he has been researching and building a web site on the organs of Sydney which he has extended to cover organs throughout Australia.
