2025 OHTA CONFERENCE IN NSW
The Organ Historical Trust of Australia is currently planning this year's conference. The event will start on Monday 29 September and conclude on Saturday 4 October in time to reach Sydney airport by about 4:30 pm and Central Station around 5:30 pm. The areas that will be explored are to the west and south west of Sydney, and the programme will include some instruments that have rarely been visited, or that have recently benefitted from major work, such as the magnificent 1890 Hill & Son organ at Ss Peter & Paul's Old Cathedral, Goulburn. Intending participants should be aware that an additional afternoon before the conference, on Sunday 28 September, is being planned so that visits can be made to two significant organs in central Sydney. One issue to be highlighted during the conference is the rapid growth in the number of redundant organs arising from church closures and from changes in worship styles.
While the final itinerary has yet to be finalised, accommodation (included in the conference fee) has already been reserved in Penrith, Medlow Bath, Bathurst, Orange and Goulburn. Some meals are included in the registration, including a conference dinner at the famous Hydro-Majestic Hotel in Medlow Bath. Recitals and lectures will also be included in the event. Of course, there is the magnificent scenery of the Blue Mountains and the delightful rural countryside of the Central West to be absorbed.
Further details, as they come to hand, will be published on the OHTA website (ohta.org.au), the Sydney Organ Concert Diary (sydneyorgan.com), as well as the OHTA Facebook page, starting in early March. While a brochure will be issued, the preferred method of booking will be online through Trybooking – there will be no fees for using this method, or for using a credit card. Intending participants need to be aware that OHTA will not be able to able to accept cheques. They also need to be aware of the high demand and subsequent high cost of accommodation in NSW and that the organising committee is doing its best to keep all costs within reason.

The Sydney Organ Competition
The Sydney Organ Competition has been in existence since 1988. It is administered by the Organ Music Society of Sydney.
The aim of our Competition is to foster a high standard of performance amongst young organ students so that they may gain experience in performing publicly and under pressure.
The Sydney Organ Competition encourages them to seek higher levels of excellence by competing. It also gives them an opportunity to meet their peers. In 2025 our 75th anniversary year, the competition is as important as ever.
This year the Intermediate Section (eighteen years and under) and the Junior Section (fifteen years and under) will take place on Monday 6 October, 2025. There will be no Open Section in 2025 as this section is held every second year.
Please visit the event website at
https://www.sydneyorgancomp.omss.org.au/ for more information.
As a member of the OMSS, you are invited to consider participating in the Sydney Organ Competition by contributing "named" prizes for competition winners. These prizes could be in a person's name you choose to commemorate and in any amount of money you decide to give. Your support would not only help us make this event a success through broadening the scope and range of prizes (you may choose to underwrite a prize for the best baroque or modern performance), but it also provides the opportunity to encourage and recognise emerging organists who will make a contribution to the organ performance and will ultimately serve in our churches and cathedrals or become soloists.Should you be interested in donating a prize, please contact the Competition Committee for more information at: edu_subcommittee@omss.org.au
