Theatre Organ Magic Radio Northern Beaches 2MWM-FM 88.7 and 90.3 is presented by John Batts at 12 noon on the first Sunday of each month. |
Sydney's Fine Music station, 2MBS-FM, is once again calling for talented young musicians across the state and the country! Applications for the 2012 2MBS Young Performers Award and this year's separate Young Performers and Even Younger Performers broadcast series are now open.
These two exciting events have uncovered some exceptional talents in the past, and have served as springboards for the careers of promising young musicians:
1) 2012 2MBS Young Performers Award:
Open to instrumentalists up to 25 years old and singers up to 30 years old, the award is excellent for those aspiring to a career in music. A major component is a radio broadcast of a full recital by the semifinalists. Selected by audition, around 12 semifinalists prepare a recital of up to 50 minutes of music, with at least one Australian work. The finalists then compete for a cash prize, and the winner represents the state at the National Young Performer of the Year awards to be held by a member of the MBS network around Australia. Past winners include clarinetist Ben Mellefont, soprano Emma Moore and percussionist Sandy Sin.
2) The Young Performers and Even Younger Performers broadcast series:
A separate event, this is open to instrumentalists up to the age of 18 years and singers up to 23 years old. After an audition, selected young artists are invited to have their performances recorded and broadcast during the Youth Development Hour on 2MBS-FM. Many artists go on to participate in the Young Performers Award and become regular features on 2MBS-FM.
For organists, the auditions will be the Sydney Organ Competition Junior and Intermediate events.
The application forms are attached here, and also available via our website: http://www.2mbs.com/content_common/pg-youth-development.seo.
Please note the closing date for the Young Performers Award is 14th October 2011, and the broadcast series is 21st October 2011.
We look forward to uncovering the musical stars of the future!
Warm regards,
Judy Deacon Co-ordinator, Youth Development, 2MBS-FM
