5.00pm - 6.00pm Fine Music FM Organ Music Society Radio Program 102.5MHz

"Society Spot" is the Organ Music Society's very own hour-long radio programme, which goes to air at 5pm on the second Saturday of the month on Fine Music Sydney, 102.5FM.  It is presented by Society member John Hanna.  It can be heard live, or streamed online by going to Fine Music Sydney's website here https://finemusicsydney.com/

It can also be heard on demand here https://finemusicsydney.com/programs/

Our “Society Spot” radio program on Fine Music Sydney (102.5 FM) at 5 pm on Saturday 10 April 2021 is entitled “A Twentieth Century British Trio,” and will feature short works by Hubert Parry, John Ireland and Charles Stanford.

Hubert Parry (1848-1918) wrote a significant amount of choral and church music, but relatively little for organ. We’ll hear excerpts from a fine organ transcription of his posthumously-published “An English Suite.”

Although he spent many years as an organist, John Ireland (1879-1962) wrote even less than Parry for his instrument. The three compositions that comprise his “Miniature Suite" (1904)—Intrada, Villanella and Menuetto-Impromptu—provide a good example of his compositional style.

Sir Charles Stanford (1852-1924) composed around 200 works. His organ output included 5 sonatas, various preludes and postludes and a number of other short pieces. I’ll be playing several of the preludes and postludes—which are his best-known organ works—but will conclude the program with less-known “Te Deum and Canzone” Op. 116.
